Hello there!
Just finished the second of three days of Otakuthon, my yearly big convention.
Friday:
-Basically lost my two passengers (so less gas money) because a suicidal woman closed off the only usable bridge in the Quebec City area. got there 45 minutes late. No one, no cell phone #... ugh
-So got there mid afternoon instead of noon as i had planned. My lovely lodger, M, was putting the finishing touches on her cosplay so i waited on her. But by 4pm she wasn't about to be done so we went anyway
-I'm staff this year so picking up badge was quick and painless. It seems there were two accounts in my name, one where my convention was paid by my staf status and the other where it was aid by my paypal account. So of course i got my moneys back.
-Did my Kamen Rider OOO/ Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger panel, got about 7 people the whole way through (one in Kintaros costume!), help Élisabeth, a friend from school/costume meets to set up the panel following mine, her lolita fashion 101. The room was packed! Her boyfriend had to turn away many other people because of that.
-After that, pretty much going around the con and taking shots (i have a few decent ones worthy of dA, don't worry.
Saturday:
-Got up and headed for a screening of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, Episodes 1 and 2, and left after a few minutes of Kamen Rider OOO in the same room.
-Joined
,
and their friends at a nearby restaurant.
-When i caught up with a lovely Umineko cosplayer dressed as Beatrice, it was a bit too late to do anything with her photo-wise. So i did a quick visit of some panels (Mostly went to see my lolita friend from yesterday) then headed to the Vocaloid gathering/shoot
-Got 4 mikus, 1 mikulu, a set of kagamine twins, a luka (which was the sister of a Miku), a Kaito, a Teto. Amongst them
.
-Then it was masquerade time! Managed by the ever so adorable
, the thing went a bit more smoothly than last year (Helps that the MCs, english one
and the french one, were actually in the place unlike last year where the guy arrived an hour before and never had time to see every contestant). There were 2 enormous groups taking whole dens at once.
-My den had: 1. A very lovely Pretty Cure character in blue 2. Nyan cat 3. a Madoka Magika character 4. Princess Aurora (
) 5. Agito Wanijima from Air Gear 6. Ayumu Aikawa from Kore wa Zombie Desu ka (5 and 6 are the two people of
, they were in my den last year too but as a single entry). 7.A Princess Zelda with a pretty neat Goron suit 8.A bunch of random ninjas (one of them had a faceplant on stage, but she's fine now) 9. another martial artist character.
-After that... Few shout outs!

On another note, i finally get to watch an episode of Power Rangers Samurai and it's really sticking to the general plot of Shinkenger... the episode i'm watching is in line with the Shinkenger Juzo arc. So i'm expecting a lantern to appear soon.
**EDIT** adding day 3
I found two kamen rider figurines, a SahGoZo from Kamen Rider OOO and Heat-Metal from Kamen Rider Double, no cash to buy any of this!
I basically ran around the convention, went to the awards ceremony, where the people in my den took 7 prizes: The pretty cure girl got one, the madoka magika 2,
got also two, the Goron suit 2. I'm so proud of you guys
And also the other guys, i saw nyan cat at the ceremony.
After lunch, i arrived to a canceled Q&A with Halko Momoi, which i wanted to see. I went around, visited
's panel on wigs (she's got an insane amount of personal wigs). Tried to get a bit of sleep in the staff room. Kinda worked, i wish i had my ipod on me at the time... then went to the closing ceremonies, the con went over 9000 attendees, up from 7300 last year. I'd really like the official number though, but it always takes a bit of time to do that.
After that, i went to see the feedback panel, which had seemingly way smaller issues than last year (weaponchecks being done on almot anything handheld, now more streamlined). But one issue probably got a few voices raised.
I won't elaborate on it, just state a fact: Out of 63 entries at the masquerade, 27 (42%) had their soundtrack missing either a few seconds at the beginning, ending or just the whole track gone. Then were told as they're walking on stage. This masquerade sound guys converted the mandatory cds into digital sound files then messed up somewhere when they already had given back the CDs at the registration table (the rules stating that those would be given back the next day).
The masquerade boss will read this. It's not her fault. Some guy messed up with a new way of doing things. And it Murphy'd on him. And gave back the backups he should've had sitting right next to him just in case.
So i got on the road back, part of which had fog so dense i was just hoping nothing was going across the highway because i would never stop on time for it. 75 ft max visibility in front of me while driving 105kph (65 mph) is NOT safe. i basically run the distance i see every second... but i was tired...
